Obituary

Lowell Paul Lovell, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Odessa on Sunday, January 18 following a recent cancer diagnosis. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, two brothers, his grandson, and his beloved dog.

Lowell was born December 6, 1954, in Marietta, Georgia to Paul and Jean Lovell. He was the fourth of five boys. The family moved from Marietta to Odessa when Lowell was a child. He attended San Jacinto Elementary, Bowie Junior High, and Odessa High School graduating with the class of 1972. Not long after high school, Lowell began working in construction, eventually starting his own business: Lovell Construction. He had several business partners and associates through the years, but most recently, he had his two sons working with him. If you had a home built by Lowell, or a remodel, a home or business addition, a set of cabinets, a piece of furniture, or any other custom woodworking project, you know Lowell was a master of his trade, a true craftsman! He left his creative, artistic mark in many parts of Texas for lots of treasured customers.

In 1975, Lowell met the love of his life, Kathryn (Kitty) Rose Miller. They married in 1976 and welcomed their first child, Joseph (Joe) in 1977. Carianne was born in 1979, and Andrew (Andy) followed in 1981. Together, they built a beautiful, faith-filled life full of love, compassion, teamwork, sacrifice, patience, honesty, respect, gentleness, companionship, support, and shared goals. They lived out their marriage vows every single day, and it was beautiful to witness.

Lowell did not want a funeral, so he will be cremated and brought back home. Lowell and Kitty bought land in west Odessa in the mid 1970s and built a life there – a house, their family, his business, and through the years, Lowell gardened and planted trees, made improvements to the land, hosted family events, parties, and holiday gatherings with Kitty, and created a welcoming, loving home for family and friends that he was proud to share.

Lowell said “he had faith bigger than most men” and was not afraid during the last 18 days when the aggressive cancer was quickly destroying his body. He enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, gardening, watching birds, hunting, and investing time working on his land. He liked grilling and smoking meat for family gatherings and also canning various fruits and vegetables. One of his favorite things to do was follow his grandsons around in everything they were involved in: swim, choir, academics, church. Lowell enjoyed learning about geography and often studied maps and landforms, reminiscing about places he’d been or wanted to visit someday. He liked to watch westerns (Lonesome Dove was his favorite!), History Channel, or sports (especially football, baseball, and golf) after work and on the weekends.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; older brothers, Stan Lovell and Lon Lovell; grandson, Joseph Paul “Deuce” Lovell; and his beloved dog, Bear.

Lowell is survived by Kitty, his wife of 49.5 years; children, Joe (Cindy) Lovell of Odessa, Texas; Carianne (Austin) Billett of Monahans, Texas; Andy Lovell of Odessa, Texas; brothers, Steve (Cynthia) Lovell of Talking Rock, Georgia; Ashley (Beverly) of Marlow, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Kathy Lovell of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Kristina (Robert) Arnold, Morgan Ashley, Owen Billett, and Collin Billett; great–grandson, Alduin Ashley; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the staff of Mercy 5 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock and the staff of Gentiva Hospice of Midland for the excellent, compassionate care they provided Lowell in his final days. Thank you also to friends and family who have reached out in numerous ways to show love during this difficult, numbing time.
