Mr. Nicasio "Nick" Chacon passed away on Monday, July 23, 2026, finally letting go once he knew his family would be okay.

Nick was born on April 4, 1946, in Castolon, Texas, in the Santa Elena Canyon area along the Rio Grande border, which later became part of Big Bend National Park. Some of his fondest childhood memories were made there, living with his family and grandmother, sleeping under the stars, and enjoying the beauty and simplicity of life outdoors.

From an early age, Nick was a hardworking man. As a young boy in Santa Elena, he carried water from the Rio Grande to ranchers, workers, and livestock. Later, he moved to Odessa, Texas, to live with his sister, Neri (Roman), where he began a new chapter in his life.

Nick was a devoted son who honored his parents with the utmost respect. He loved his family and friends deeply and was always there for his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He was known as a simple man with a great sense of humor and an incredible work ethic, continuing to work until he was 73 years old.

In his later years, Nick faced cancer with remarkable strength and courage. He never once complained, believing everything was in the hands of Diosito (God). After overcoming cancer, he returned to work and continued doing what he loved most—visiting family and friends, attending family gatherings, grilling, watching wrestling, and playing bingo. Above all, he was proud to be "Popo," a loving grandfather who enjoyed caring for his pets and helping his family in any way he could.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

My heart is broken, but I am also filled with peace because we witnessed your struggles and pain, and through it all, you remained strong and courageous. That's just who you were.

For the last 16 years or so, you were also my roommate. You cooked for me, maintained my home, watched over our pets, and, most importantly, helped me care for my own family. Even when I fell short at times, you reminded me that we're only human, mistakes will happen, we learn from them, fix them, and keep taking care of each other.

You've been by my side my entire life. You loved me unconditionally, and you shared that same love with Ants, Addy, and our extended family. Everyone who came into my life became your family, and they loved you because you welcomed them, valued them, and loved them as your own.

In these last few years, through your strength, you showed me how precious and fragile life truly is. You taught me to give to those less fortunate, to be kind and compassionate, and to always work my hardest, even when others don't.

The greatest gift you gave me was teaching me never to forget where we came from and to always, always remain humble.

Thank you for your love, your guidance, your sense of humor, and every sacrifice you made for me throughout your life. You were an amazing son, uncle, brother, grandfather, and dad. I was so lucky to be your daughter. I did my best, and so did you. We understood each other, and we always ended our days by saying, "I love you" and "Good night." I will miss that more than words can express.

It gives me peace knowing you are with Welita, especially after you told me you had recently spoken to her, and that you are reunited with the rest of your family.

Your work here is done. We will carry your legacy forward by taking care of one another, cherishing our family gatherings, helping those in need, giving generously, never forgetting who we are or where we came from, and always remaining humble.

Thank you for everything you taught us, for every sacrifice you made, and for the unconditional love you gave so freely. The values you lived by will continue to guide us, and through them, your spirit will always remain with us.

I miss you more than words can express, and there will always be a place in my heart that belongs to you. Though you are no longer by my side, you will forever walk with me in my heart, in my memories, and in the lives of everyone you touched.

Rest in peace, Dad. Until we meet again.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Nicasio Sr. and Elauteria Chacon; his sisters, Ernestina Chacon, Loisa Viscaino, Dominga Chavez, and Maria Neri Lujan; and his brothers, Alfonso "Poncho" Chacon and Salvador "Chava" Chacon.

He is survived by his only daughter, Nelda Gail Chacon ("Dada"); his grandson, Anthony Michael Juarez and Tania Villalobos; his beloved great-granddaughter, Addyson Janae Juarez ("Ninis"); and many cherished extended family members, including Jo Ann Brito, Emma Martinez, John, Monica, and Leonel Matta, the Greg and Lupe Dutchover family, the Melly and Justine Galindo family, and the Stevie and Monica Galindo family.

He is also survived by his sisters, Guillerma Hinojos and Eva Morales, along with his many beloved nieces and nephews: Gracie, Viola, Hector, Alma, Denise, Jorge, Javier, Sammy, Tuti, Oscar, Neto, Silvia, Manuel, Dielva, Jose Luis, Jason, Florinda, Roman Jr., Salvador Jr., Lupe, and Michelle.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Martinez West Funeral Home Chapel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to return to Martinez West Funeral Home Chapel immediately following the Mass for a luncheon. Burial will take place at a later date.

Our cup runneth over with gratitude. We are truly blessed by our lifelong friends who checked on me daily and supported my family with prayers, visits, phone calls, text messages, and unwavering love throughout this journey. The love and kindness you showed my dad, and the support you gave me and my children, brought us comfort, strength, and reminded us that we were never alone.
