Obituary

Sherry Marlene Morris Cook left her earthly home to reside for eternity in Heaven on March 30, 2026, in Midland, Texas.

Sherry was born on August 14, 1953, to George and Marlene Morris in Big Spring, TX. She spent the majority of her life in Odessa, TX. She graduated from Permian High School in 1972. Sherry was baptized in 1965, and took pride in being one of the oldest members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa. She earned degrees in Control Engineering and Education from UTPB. She taught science at Crockett Junior High, Ector Junior High , Bonham Junior High and Permian High School. In the 90s, she and her mother owned a retail clothing store.

She met the love of her life, Jack Dale Cook, and they were married May 30, 1975, in Odessa at Immanuel Baptist. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Together they raised three sons, Shannon, Wesley and Jack.

Of Sherry’s many achievements in life, being a wife, mother, and daughter were amongst what she valued most. However, she was especially proud to be Nanners to her grandsons. Family was important to her. She had a huge heart and generous spirit. Sherry never met a stranger. While she was a teacher by profession, she enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing hand bells, scrapbooking, spending time at the lake., and cheering for her boys in their various endeavors.

Her viewing will be from 1-2:30 pm prior to her funeral service at 3pm, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa, TX and will be officiated by Landon Coleman. Burial will be Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 1pm at Balmorhea Cemetery in Balmorhea, TX.

Pallbearers are Rocky Bryant, Logan Cook, Christian Gutierrez, Zack White, Robie Morris, Terrell Belcher

She is preceded in death by her parents, George Lee Morris and Dorothy Marlene Newman Morris, her paternal grandparents, Karl Morris, and Dora Ena Griffiths Morris, and her maternal grandparents, Thomas Elvin Newman and Johnny Ruthie Mae McBride Mitchell, and many beloved family members.

Left to mourn her loss are her husband, Jack Cook of Odessa, sons Shannon (Charla) of Petersburg, TX, Wesley (Mary) of Sweetwater, TX, and Jack of Holly Ridge, NC, grandsons Logan Cook (Shannon) of Lubbock, TX, and Christian Gutierrez (Ashton) of Lubbock, TX, and great grandson Kai Gutierrez of Lubbock,TX, brother Randy Morris (Paula) of Granbury, TX, sisters-in-law Dolly Bryant of Clarendon, Vera Martin of Big Spring, and Maggie Linda Hall of Seguin, TX, and Liz Cook of Balmorhea and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members that were dear to her.
